Abbey Road on the River Music Festival “Gets Back” to Cleveland
Cleveland, OH (February 7, 2013) – Today on February 7th, forty-nine years TO THE DAY that The Beatles first arrived in America, the event producers of Abbey Road on the River are announcing that they are bringing the world’s largest Beatles inspired music festival back to The Rock and Roll Capital over Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 1, 2013. For the first time in eight years, Beatles fans and bands from around the world will enjoy three days of peace, love, and rock-n-roll at Jacobs Pavilion at the Nautica Entertainment Complex. On March 21, the complete musical lineup will be announced,and tickets and hotel packages will go on sale at www.arotr.com.
This year’s festival will get fans geared up for a city-wide event that is being planned for September, 2014 to honor the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first appearance in Cleveland at Public Hall on September 15, 1964.
When The Beatles performed the historic concert at the Public Hall, the concert was stopped because of wild fans, and the group was not allowed to return during the 1965 summer tour. They rocked Cleveland yet again on August 14, 1966 at the old Cleveland Stadium, which took place after the “Beatles Ban” was lifted.
What has now become the world’s largest tribute festival to the Fab Four, Abbey Road On the River debuted in 2002 along the banks of the Cuyahoga River with over 15,000 fans coming together at the grand re-opening of Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica.
“We’re thrilled Abbey Road on The River is returning to Cleveland, the city where the event originated,” said David Gilbert, President and CEO of Positively Cleveland. “This unique, two-day event is expected to draw roughly 15,000 attendees to Cleveland’s vibrant downtown where they’ll experience the best attractions and restaurants we have to offer, stay in our downtown accommodations and engage with like-minded Beatles fans from all over the U.S.”
Gary Jacob, festival Founder and Executive Producer said, “While we are fortunate to have found a welcoming and supportive 2nd home in Louisville the last 8 years, and will remain there Memorial Day Weekends for years to come, Cleveland is my home, and we felt it was time to revive the magic we originally created in Cleveland.”

Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica plays host to some of the summer’s hottest concerts and special events in the Cleveland area. The Nautica Entertainment Complex has attracted millions of people annually. Superstar artists including Ringo Starr, Paul Simon, Britney Spears, and 2011 Grammy winners John Legend and The Black Keys have performed at this 5,000 seat entertainment venue.
In addition to the Cleveland Labor Day festival, 2013 will mark the 9th consecutive year that Abbey Road on the River (AROTR) has taken place over Memorial Day weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. From May 23rd through May 27th, more than 50 world-class bands from around the world and all across the United States will “come together” to perform on 12 indoor and outdoor stages for more than 25,000 fans. Popular AROTR bands that will perform in Cleveland include All You Need Is Love, Jukebox, The LSB Experience, The Norwegian Beatles, The Repeatles, The Newbees, BritBeat, Steve Sizemore Group, The Traveling Beatleburys, Union Jack, The Cryers, and Wingsbanned. Festival goers will also enjoy browsing original artwork inspired by The Beatles, Beatles Singing Contests, discussions led by Fab Four experts, and a Beatles merchandise marketplace, anchored by Gretsch Guitar.
